Consistent, accurate serving could be the objective of any volleyball player – from youth to Olympic team member. To reach that period, however, you need to know if you’re serving correctly. Here are some strategies to do that.

The first method to tell whether that you are serving correctly is whether or not the ball will be where you would like it to go. I know that sounds very simplistic, though the reality of things is proper mechanics has a tendency to result in high quantities of accuracy. If you might be consistently hitting your target then odds are pretty good you might have things right. That said, likelihood is you’re reading this article article since you aren’t as accurate or powerful a server as you’re looking, so allow me to provide you with some checkpoints you can use to get on track.

Are you finishing your serve balanced? If not, there will be something wrong. Usually, it comes to your toss. If you chuck the ball ball much to the left or right you’ll wind up leaning for the reason that direction to make proper ball contact. Either that or you will be serving the ball as direction after you didn’t want to do so. If you find unwanted weight well on to your front toes, then you’ve got tossed the ball beyond the boundary forward, while wearing to arch your back and lean backwards means a toss behind your ideal contact point. All of this could be fixed by gaining better toss.

Is the ball spinning when you need it to float, or floating when you need it to spin? That is a function within your ball contact. You need to be sure you’re stricking the appropriate part of the ball inside the correct strategy to get the desired effect.

Is the ball coming landing short or going too much? Distance in serving is about the speed of your respective hand at contact. Swing your arm faster heading to the ball farther (notice I didn’t say swing harder). Swing your arm slower to strike the ball shorter. Make sure to keep the ball contact firm, though. No floppy wrist or mushy hand!

Does your shoulder hurt after you serve? If so, in all probability it means your arm swing is off in many fashion – assuming you won’t simply have a physical injury from another thing, needless to say. This again may very well be related to ball toss, however it could also be a function of the mechanics. This might be not easy to judge yourself, though. You’ll likely want the assistance of a coach in evaluating your arm swing – at least the use of video.

Which describes perhaps the best method to gauge whether you might be serving properly. Video yourself serving and compare it to video of somebody who serves properly. There are many tools in existence these days that offer side-by-side analysis. This will let you observe how your technique stacks up from the good server inside areas of body posture, arm preparation, toss, footwork, and follow-through.

Hopefully there is a coach that’s keeping an eye on your serving technique and assisting you correct things as required. If not, though, the information here should assist you to identify problems and hang up you on a path toward more efficient serving.
